Are you building the strength to support your boxing?

We spend a lot of time working on our boxing. Improving our technique, building fitness, sharpening our skills and pushing ourselves in class.

But there’s another important part of training that sometimes gets overlooked.

Strength.

Boxing places considerable demands on your body. You’re constantly moving, rotating, accelerating, decelerating, generating power and repeating movements under fatigue.

While boxing classes are fantastic for developing many of these qualities, they don’t necessarily provide all the strength work your body needs to support them.

That’s where our BUILD program comes in.

BUILD is designed to complement your boxing training by developing the strength and physical capacity that support what you do in class.

Why should you incorporate BUILD into your week?

1. Build a more resilient body

Developing strength helps your muscles, tendons and other tissues better tolerate physical demands. A well-rounded strength program can also help reduce the risk of certain injuries, particularly when training loads are progressed appropriately.

2. Improve your boxing performance

Strength is an important foundation for producing force, controlling movement and maintaining good positions.

Whether it’s generating power through your punches, maintaining balance or moving efficiently around the ring, having a stronger body gives you more physical capacity to work with.

3. Improve your ability to handle training

As your strength improves, everyday movements and the physical demands of training can become more manageable.

Building strength can help you tolerate the demands of repeated rounds, maintain control as fatigue sets in and give your body a better foundation for progressing your training.

4. Create a more balanced training week

Boxing develops plenty of qualities, but it shouldn’t be the only stimulus your body receives.

Combining boxing with structured strength training helps develop a more complete athlete.

Our recommendation?

If you’re regularly attending boxing classes, look at incorporating at least one BUILD session into your weekly routine.

If you’re training three, four or five times a week, consider how BUILD can become a consistent part of that schedule rather than something you only do occasionally.

You don’t need to choose between getting better at boxing and getting stronger.

The two should work together.

BOX. BUILD. REPEAT.

We’ll see you in class.
